came home tonight and notice my powder blue tang laying on the substrate and having a hard time staying upright. was eating yesterday (i'm 95% sure) and today dying. quickly setup the qt and have him in there with cupramine (saw ich on him) a hob filter heater and airstone. he doesn't look like he'll make it to morning. any suggestions? don't wanna lose him!

Unfortunately, aside from what you have done, there is not much else you can do now.
If you see Ich in there, you will need to QT all of your fish for 12 weeks and treat them and keep your DT devoid of fish for the entire time so the parasite dies off completely.

i guess i just have to wait it out and see tomorrow if there's any progress. i just don't understand how it can get so bad from one day to the next. he appears to be sleeping now, i thought he was done til i nudged him. i don't wanna stress him even more so i'll let him be. wish there was more i can do!

try herbtana, its a ich and parasite medicine that is reef safe. i used it in my reef which i have all sorts of sps, lps and softies so its not going to kill the more delicate corals unless you overdose it and just end up bombing the tank

sorry for whats happened to your PBT.i think what you did might have caused more stress on your fish.im going to be slammed here but who cares.i do not QT any of my fish.i drip acclimate them for an hour or 2 depending on the type of fish and i give a high dose of garlic for 2 weeks.i bought a yellow tang around 3 weeks ago which looked like it was parasite free till the next morning when it was covered in ich.i have a cleaner wrasse which was all over him and my 2 cleaner shrimp were cleaning the crap out of him and in 2 days i noticed ich was gone and no other fish which are extremely healthy including my manderin were also ich free.i firmly believe the less stress on a fish which moving him all around is considered stressful and just leave him be.if it had ich already in the DT the other fish which if not healthy already will have ich so there was no reason moving him..good luck

thats what "THEY" say but for 3 years ive been using the same method minus the cleaner wrasse and ich ive noticed on my fish are gone in a few days.the cleaner wrasse def helps.it cleaned the yellow tang relentlessly.and i can care less if im slammed.i know it works and i havent lost a fish yet.ive lost more fish QTing then this way

i hear you duke. i never quartine either, only if they're sick but after a lot of reading i think a qt is a good way to go. if you're tank is free of all parasites and any other mess. you don't wanna pick up a new addition that could possibly introduce something into the tank, but then again you never know with this hobby!

nope.i will never QT another fish again.i dont care what "THEY" say.been doing this a long time and like i said when i first started in the hobby i would say 50 percent of the fish i put in QT died on me..i now have a 100 percent of fish that survive without, besides the fish thats hopped out or ones i found out later by someone that used to work in the pet store i shop at that some of the fish i purchased were probably poisoned for easy capturing.

That stinks! I wish I would have saw this thread earlier. There is a product called "quick cure" that you can use in a dip to quickly relieve the fish of the ich and then move it into a QT tank for treatment with Bifuran+. It may have still died but it does work more often then just throwing the fish in copper.
Despite what anyone says, QT is the way to go but you should do it proactively. Any sign of stress (which includes change in behavior) should be acted upon quickly. In a lot of cases, by the time you see physical signs its too late so of course you'll have poor survival rates QTing fish in those situations. Unfortunately, as in your case, signs suddenly appear and there is nothing you can do about it.

I'm using copper right now and wreaking havoc on my fish.

Dom recommended bifuran for my Naso who was stung by an anemone and the wound got infected. Saved my tangs life. Bifuran is an anti bacterial and anti fungal medication. Dom, i was gonna call you last night but didn't wanna be a bother. I absolutely HATE tol lose a life. But I know I did what I could.

Bifuran+ is an anti-protozoan and an anti-bacterial treatment in one. I've had no problems using it and fish seem to handle it well. The main issue with it is the near 100% water changes every 24 hours for 5-7 days. Its well worth the effort though.
Ich (a protozoan) seems to be killed with it. I've been using it for a few months now regularly and it works great and pretty fast. The problem with a lot of coppers is by the time it kills the parasite the fish may have been compromised already.

Thanks for the info..I tried to Google it for saltwater use and not much info.
So u dose once, and do water changes? Or dose daily with wc for 5-7 days?
