Skene is taking my torch as the new forum troll!

Nah I don't post enough to be a forum troll. :p you can keep that title.

Duke don't get me wrong.. Your heart is in the right place.. But you really should go and provide more recent information to back up the claims. Preventive maintenance or a friendly reminder for all tank owners to stop and clean their pumps..... Blah blah....

That may be more forgiving with information... Rather than "the sky is falling" tactic.. Just like the the whole odyssea fiasco... 8years later and OMG... Everyone that owns one your house is going to burn...

Jusy a friendly reminder. K... Thx... Bi...

if yu read my words from the first post it was if i were you not hurry up your pumps are going to destroy your tank today if you dont do this.like i said if you dont want to then dont.i changed mine out and im happy i did it.you really need to read posts before you go all defensive right away..and you still didnt answer my post.when are you going to chage your GFO over to collected rust from the junk yard and change your pipes over to steel? im just giving a heads up to people .if they want to take the precaution and change the screws they will.at least i told people about it instead of just reading threads and not starting a helpful one..

i think this friendly advice is getting a little over the top guys, iron is safe in tanks in the right proportions and circumstances. if people wanted it would actually be cheaper to go to the junk yard find some rusted iron, grind it up to the size of phosban grains, rinse it sterilize it and then you are good to go(i dont recomend doing it). replacing the plumbing with the iron pipes would just not be a good idea at all because they would rot away and you would re do the plumbing every month. as far as the chemicals leeching from the plastic im a toxicology/bio major and from what i know the only chemical that leeches from plastic is BPA which in people resembles estrogen so in men developing breasts and in women enlarging their breasts and messing with their monthly cycle. in a reef tank i do not know how this will affect things but as far as im concerned nylon should be safe in a tank considering we wear it on our body almost every single day in a percentage of at least 50%

I think Mag has changed the type of screws they where using. I have had my mag in my sump for a year and they still look the same as when I took it out the box. If it was going to rust it would have done it already.

they start to rust from the threads.the head will look fine.hey if they changed there screws thats great i did not know.but also some people may have the older mag pumps and do not know.i know my pump is 3 years old or so.also i wasnt writing this thread just to tell people about the rust in the tank.if the threads do rust it can compromise the strength of the screw and break the pump.
