Hey guys, I went and bought a baby clam yesterday at FishTown, but it is not doing so good IMO. I asked the lfs manager if I had to acclimate it, and he said no. Only the fish need acclimating. So stupid me just put it in the tank, now today when I got home its been 6 hours since the lights came on. The shell is slightly open, but it's mantle is balled up inside the shell. I don't know what to do to help it. I poured some phytoplankton around it's vicinity, but I don't know what else to do. Please help my little clam. :(

Hi Guys, Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I had posted what happened on JustinNY's post.
The clam died, and so did 90 others before they got sold at the lfs. George, and Vic at FishTown knowingly sold me a dieing clam. This was told to me by another sales person in the store this past Sunday. They received 100 baby clams, and at least 90 of them died before they could sell them.
Fishome, the tank the baby went in to is a little over a year old. Maybe 1 1/2. The new tank is still in the works. But even that one has 1 1/2 - 2 year old lr. All parameters are fine.
I am holding off on the purchase of any more clams until my 120 is complete. And then I will not be buying anything smaller then 3", as it has been explained to me this is a better size.
Thanks for your replies.

Awi,

I think you could have better luck with justphish.com and his clams - I bought a baby Maxima from him and had it picked up, not shipped - I have had it for about 2 1/2 monts and it is doing fine - I have a 30 gallon tank with 4 clams - one crocea 5 inches, one squamosa 3.5 inches, one Ultra Maxima - 4 inches and one baby gold maxima 1.5 inches - allm doing well - my lighting is dual 96 w power compacts. All clams are showing white shell layers which means they are growing.

Just my .02 - good luck

Thank you House. I will definitely check them out once I am ready to purchase more clams. By the way are your clams sitting on the sand, or up on the rocks? I'd like to see a pic of them. Can you post pics, or email them to me.
Thanks

All are sitting in the sand - I tried to get them up on the rocs, but none of them wanted to be there. Eventually they would all wind up on the seafloor anyway - I figured, why fight them if thats where they want to be!

All pictures are actually here on this site in the photo gallery under my name - the squamosa and maxima are in one picture together early on in the gallery and the crocea has two pics and the ultra maxima is down at the bottom of the gallery.

Enjoy them, they are nice shots. Let me know if you have further questions,

Jim
