Upgrade question

Hey Guys. Here is my question.

I will be upgrading from a 40G to a 125G soon. I was hoping to use my old rock in the new tank and new sand. I know the new tank will go through a cycle.

Do I have to wait the month again for the cycle to complete?

Should I keep my 40 running until the cycle is done?

I want to get a plan going for the move so that I can get it done without any problems.

LMK what you guys think.

let the tank cycle and keep the 40 running if you have livestock.

I would set the new tank up and completely cycle it, but use the rock that you have to help it along. Use new sand, and then use some rock from your current tank to seed it. Once it is fully cycled then just move the rock from one tank to the other, just make sure that you keep it in water if you are going to mess with it for a while

I would assume that you are adding more rock to the new tank, that is what is going to make you cycle again and the sand.

Cycle does not always complete with in a month, just keep testing when the levels are right you will know.

So yes I would keep the 40g running.

My first tank only took 2 weeks to go from 50-60 in nitrates to 0 in that time. But my second setup took about 6 and a half weeks to cycle.

Thanks guys. Looks like I may use a few rocks from my current build and this may be the chance to pick up some rock at the swap...DAMN! More money....damn damn damn.
