Hey correct me if im wrong, buy stands that are made with compressed wood arent really holding the weight of the tank using.... Compressed wood are they?

My buddies are telling me to watch out with those stands as ur tank my come crashing down. Lol

But i always figured the stand must be made out of 2x4 or something strong and was just dressed, or encased in compressed wood.

Anyone have any details on this. Im looking to buy a tank with stand and fear te stand may be of this kind. Its a deep blue 75g rimless with deep blue stand.

Thanks!

What I understand, compressed wood is pretty much compressed saw dust, not as close to being as strong as let's sat a 2x4, it's gets it's strength from being compressed, just a bunch of sawdust packed together to make a board, if something was putting weight over it it would hold, but it lacks tensile strength, meaning if it bowed a lil bit it would lose strength and just give out, this is what I understand about it but don't quote me on it lol

That I don't know but I understand what ur saying, The only thing I would think would be a problem would be like where ever it would get screws or staples, the compressed wood usually doesnt hold as good, even though the supports would be on solid 2x4s the part u gonna see is the compressed wood, the stand would hold up but if u bang or scrape against ur stand u might take a piece out, compressed wood breaks easy

Not to mention moisture, and you know that it's going to get wet some how. Solid wood is the way to go. I seen some of those compressed wood stands. Not even the support's are solid wood. Not worth it IMO.

They are junk as soon as they get wet they start splitting. They are ok for a nano tank as all the nano stands are made out of it but for a big tank like a 75 I would definitely not use it. I don't even know why they make them.

Okay so i contacted Manufacturer... Heres what they said...

Series One and Two cabinets are constructed using compressed wood with a special moisture protection process. In addition, vertical supports are integrated into the design which is why our cabinets do not come knocked-down. Hope this helps.
