I've been wanting to integrate or sort of modular tank to separate multiple tanks that can inhibit different types of fish but be able for the fish to move from tank to tank.

Say WHAT?

Somewhat like JonnyJ's tank but add a bridge for the fish to cross into the different sections.

If you have a creative and artistic mind, imagine the following from left to right:

Shallow reef/mandarins [24 x 24 x 14]
shallow reef that will hold your frags low flow for mandarins etc then a glass almost resembling a BRIDGE that the fish can swim through to get to your second section

Your main display [48 x 24/36 x 24]
This will be your show case where you can keep your tangs, angels etc. Huge reef!

Seahorse/macro/etc [24 x 24 x 14]
This would be your seahorse section with your macros and pipefish etc.

You will set your initial section and main display with one huge sump but your last section you would need to control the flow more and utilize it's independant chiller and sump to keep the water tempature down. just like an airconditioner in a room though the door is open it would still be cooler in the room. Obviously may cause the need for a higher powered chiller than normal.

This to me would be the ultimate tank besides being rimless with starfire front to make it really POP.

I'm sure this would cost me a pretty penny. Someday this dream will become reality and I will bump this thread!!

Please feel free to add because ideas like this help others.

Well although a very cool idea it might not work out too well. Seahorses and pipefish are lower temperature animals. Usually they are not in reefs because of such different requirements. It might be possible to acclimate them but in general they are kept around 74 degrees. I have seen cases where they have been in a fowlr oddly enough with some very strange tank mates and it worked. The guy had a small shark I forget what kind , a lion, a niger trigger, some tangs, a lobster and a few other fish. All of those are supposed to be major threats to seahorses but somehow that worked for him the seahorse was pretty big though. I just googled some stuff for you to find something to really help you understand the situation you are trying to get into so here is a very helpful thread and seahorse.org is a very good site w/ a lot of experts on it that can help you further if you have any more questions. http://www.seahorse.org/library/articles/tankmates/tankmates.shtml
