so i was wondering if you think just altering an aga megaflow 4 and turning it into a refugium would be a better idea.

I would love to drill the megaflow so that i can have an external pump at the end, then i would want to put the proten skimmer in the last chamber. I was all thinking about cutting some of the arcylic to make it hold filter bags rather then being a trickle down sump. and the huge middle be a nice refugium with rock and chaeto etc.

Let me know what you think.

thats probably a good idea!

the green area is where the water over flows into the sump, i want to break it open so i can put filter bags rather then sponges for a trickle down system, plus increases refugium size a little.

the light blue color is refuge area

the purple is where the protein skimmer would sit

the yellow is where i would add a bulk head for external pump

in the 2nd shot yellow x is where i would cut the arcylic and add filter bag

its possible... i did it with an old wet dry filter.. i dont like the mechanical filtration after my fuge tho... if your letting pods grow and hope the get pumped up to your display they probably wont make it past the skimmer... what abt reversing it and making the skimmer first, fuge after and put the bulhead higher so if you have sand in the fuge u wont suck it in?

Problem is you shouldn't put the skimmer in the return pump area because the water level will vary even with an Ato.

Build a nice glass sump, and sell the one u got.

Do you have problems with nitrates with the bio balls or that's what hte chaeto is for?

Well yes I did have a Nitrate problem, on my APT test kit the color was dark orange!!! but I don?t think it?s from the Bio balls, I think its because I was using tap water for 6 months, but now got a RO/DI & when I did my 1st water change with RO/DI water my Nitrate went done to 0 on the APT test kit the color was yellow as if it was a new tank!!! It was hard to believe but kept testing every day for 3-4 days, & it?s still was yellow!!!!
My tank is 110G with 100LB of live rock give or take, my refugim is doing grate & full or life.
