Wow this is perfect , cancervo just told me that corals are like pharmaceuticals, there is a name for the coral at a premium price and a generic for a simple co-pay! This is soooo true and we just have to be armed with common sense and a hunch that maybe that chainsaw cut frag is not worth the tag!

i stopped bi@#$ing about this a year ago.i wont buy a frag of aything over 40 bucks.i get my corals below 40 or i trade.it makes me feel better about myself knowing i can afford more corals then to worry about how much i have to save.at the swap i was giving 200 to spend from a christmas gift and i spent 20 dollars over my limit but i bought alot of dry goods raffle tickets and 4 nice pieces of corals and received a couple from the donation table.that will be all i spend for a month

this trend will never change. and most of this trend came from people taking fake picture's, and by fake i will use zoa's as the main example, ive been collecting zoa's for over 6 years, ive seen the same zoa's over the last 6 years, occasionally there is a new morph that pops up, but mainly it is just a new and better macro shot under different lighting, but watch everyone who posted on here selling a coral with a name. i can honestly say ive only seen a handful of corals that i would consider rare, but then again there are hundreds of importers so i truelly dont know how many have actually came it for it to be rare.

in the beginning coral names were used to distinguish corals from one another and I love some of the old school named pieces but today people have taken it too far. I'm all for retailers making money on selling corals because quite honestly a lot of money is spent by them getting them from the ocean and into there selling tanks and to turn a profit isn't always guaranteed. It's the shisters who tag LE on a coral, give it a fancy name, take a macro pic under blue lights and charge ridiculous prices and than act like they're doing you a favor after ripping you off that irritates me
