Hello all, well I my son just recently won a small gold fish and it just died a day ago. Now he doesn't know it's gone but i talked the my wife into a small tank for me opps i mean him lol:scratchch . So any how I wanted to do a small seahorse and pipfish tank because I think it's something he (me ) would be interested in. But I 'm not sure if I can do it. Any way what I m looking for is some advise one which way I should go wheather it be a small sh or clownfish tank. If I go the sh route what would be the smallest and safest way to go > :D

Oceanic just put out a new NANO tank and its pretty damn nice(not sure if its for sale yet, i think i have a promo somewhere), or try JBJ nanos which are just as good. Don't buy an eclipse (i think its a bad product)

Some thoughts on Seahorses

Hi,

Don't even think about doing pipefish :biglaugh: because they're not available in captive bred that eat frozen misis (mysis?) shrimp. :banghead: The food bill for seahorses is much higher than flake food for clowns. There's no reason you can't combine a clown with a couple of seahorses. Now you need 2 kinds of foods :smash: :goldfish2 .

But are YOU up for the expense of a 16 gallon tall tank, clean sand, a good filter, sea salt, a hydrometer, an air pump, thermometer, heater, nice rocks and descent lighting. What I just described is the absolute cheapest way to go.

But then when you get addicted and want to start putting non-aggressive corals in with the seahorses, you'll need much more specialized lighting, live rock, live sand, and a protein skimmer.

But if you ask me, it's all worth it.
Then there's the expense of the seahorses. And the types.:google:

Good luck and have fun with it. I do.

Just my 2 cents, but my first tank was a 24 gallon JBJ nanocube. What a horrible experience. To make a long story short, the tank ended up cracking and everything I had inside was ruined, not to mention the mess on my kitchen floor. Afterwards, I heard that JBJ made an improved model (I read a few posts with ppl having the same experience as mine) but I'm still not sold on the nano cube.

Oh I'm sorry, I guess I negleted to mention. This would be my second tank. I already have a 125 reef. but thanks for the advice. I might actually put this thought on hold for a few maybe by late sumer I decide to start it. Right now im jsut going to research the horeses. I think that they seem to be pretty hard to keep but we'll see.
