So I'm browsing another forum, and there is a conversation about ich, and someone comments: "...Guys we might not know it, but every fish in every one of our tanks has ich. It is always under its gills and we just don't know cause we can't see it. It just shows up when the fish is stressed, bad water quality, poor flow, etc..."

Maybe someone has heard it already but I just came across it first time today. Just got me thinking. I thought if a fish is properly QTed, and/or tank undergone hypo the ich will die off? I wouldn't really know much because I never had an actual visual ich "outbreak."

What do you guys think.

It is true that just because you can't see the parasite doesn't mean it isn't there. It is also true that many fish can live with the parasite without clinical symptoms until they become stressed for whatever reason.

IF all fish are carefully QT'd and properly treated with copper or hyposalinity it is possible to eliminate Ick entirely from the fish. Then, IF they are added to a system that has not had non-QT'd fish AND corals/inverts it is POSSIBLE to have a completely ick free system.

The practical reality is that this is almost never the case for the vast majority of hobbyists, so the original "myth" is in practice correct.
