So I just picked up a BRS media reactor with a maxijet 1200 and check valve from a member on here. Its a single reactor and I am running GFO. Does anybody know if I need to have those two filter sponges inside the reactor? I tried to run it last night with out the filter sponges however my skimmate was comming a out a little brown my guess from the GFO thats coming from the reactor. What position shouLd they be in? Any advice would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly, BRS instructions for carbon was to use one on top to plug the outlet and one on the bottom packed tightly with no void between the sponges and for GFO, one on top to plug the outlet and the other right behind it. The GFO needs to tumble so you need void space between the 2nd top sponge and the GFO whereas carbon does not.
