Cyling with Non-RoDi water

Can I start cyling my Biocube 29 with NJ's tap water & Salt?

I'm currently on a hunt for a RoDi.

You should not, and if your united water the TDS is around 120. Buy water from LFS, distilled water or wait for your RODI.

I would not! I need to get a manual TDS meter, but I think that my TDS are higher than that from United Water.

At WalMart they have distilled (pink cap) for.88 cents and something called Drinking water (Green cap) for .78 cents. Both are 0 TDS. So for around 25 bucks you can cycle your tank without TDS
This is the only water I use since I fell asleep making RODI and had to replace the firt floor ceiling.

Dont cut corners in this hobby start right from day 1 and keep doin it right. Thats one of the many reasons why people leave the hobby. Use rodi...

Or you can just get a float valve for your RO

Is it only water and salt or are you also curing rock? If you are curing uncured rock then it will give off so much stuff it doesn't matter what water you use.

Then when your done cyclin your tank you will spend the rest of the year doing w/c with ro/di to get rid of the phosphates you put in to your tank with your tap water. I should know, I cycled my first tank with tap water.:grumpy: Never again.:smile:

I started my cycle with NYC tap. I had alot of algae in the beginning. save the headache and use RODI, it'll only do good for you.
