Disgusted with walmarts fish section, who to contact

My wife went to Walmart on RT110 in Farmingdale today & what she saw really upset her being a fish lover too so she wanted to do something about it. I figured it's a fish problem & who else would I ask. So who can she contact?

This is the story:

She went into the pet section & back by the fish.
She saw a betta which they never sell ( we have one that she loves) and noticed it was in filthy water & dead. Then her friend pointed out that in all of the fresh water tank there was filthy water & tons of dead fish. My wife counted 19 dead fish. They were sucked into the filters & decomposing. There were pieces of fish all over the tanks and each tank had dead fish either hanging out of the filter, floating on top or on the bottom. Both my wife & her friend were horrified & hope to find someone they can contact about these terrible conditions!

I think she's looking for something outside of walmart. Something that deals with animal cultey like an ASPCA for fish! Why is Walmart selling fish in the first place, what she witnessed was ridiculous. What was store manager going to do:argue:, I'm sure since these didn't look like they all happened today that they are probably aware and don't care!

take pics then put up a thread with the address and warn all hobbyist to avoid the shop. Also find a closer business that is run better so those in that area may go and support that one. This way you can hit them where it hurts; the pockets!

I only shop in places where they have our fishes best interest in mind. Even if i need to pay just alittle more.

She wants to let everybody know that she was not shopping for a fish. Her friend needed a light bulb for her Beta tank. She would never buy a fish at Walmart.

because walmart is a evil empire which is controlled buy everything that is wrong with our economic future.i dont understand why people still shop there knowing how wrong this store is and how it costs the US billions.they are trying to corner the market in every aspect yet people stillgothere because they can buy beef jerkey for a dollar on a 24 pack

What i am saying is if you want to do somoething about it then take pics and show everyone whats going on. This will discourage people from ever even shopping at walmart.

My friend is a manager at that store and I just showed her and she said she will handle it when she gets in the store in the morning ...

Make a complaint on their corporate hotline. I have done this regarding the dismal state in some Petcos (the situation is a little different because,obviously, Petco being a pet store has a hotline dedicated to concerns about habitat conditions, but Walmart must have SOMETHING. I've seen that they carry fish in a number of their stores on LI unfortunately, so there must be somebody you can get in contact with. If you tell that the conditions deterred you from buying fish from there, they'll probably look into it quickly.)

In all honesty it's friggin walmart! What do you expect? Places like wal mart should not sell fish but they do it for kids really. They don't sell anything crazy it's cheap fresh water stuff..gold fish betas, regular plecos minimal food and tanks. Kids are shopping w/ their parents and they need cat food or somethign and they happen to see the fish and might buy one. It's not a lfs just a place you can grab a few things if you need it. For instance if your heater breaks or you run out of fish food etc you can run to wal mart at midnight when your lfs is closed. Most wal marts do not sell fish only tank stuff.

Your best bet is probably take pics and send them to their corporate office. If the store looks like crap it makes them look bad believe me they will take care of the issue.

Thanks for the advice! I think there was some confusion about my post, my wife wasn't nor do I buy fish at Walmart! My wife loves our fish & just felt it was horrible to see any fish/animal etc. in those kind of living environments regardless of what store it is or isn't. She wanted to find out who was best to contact about what she saw. She was in there buying paper goods & her friend needed a light bulb for her own tank(betta) & that is how they even got near the "fish section". Thanks again, she is going to contact corporate.
