Going from a 20 gallon to a 36 gallon and have a system with about 25lbs of live rock that's about 1.5 years old. Never had ich in my tank. 2 aptasia that popped up over the summer and 2 small parties (6-8 stems) of colonial hydroids that hasn't gotten bigger or spread since I saw them about a year ago. They are on the ends of the rocks so I can easily break them off. Have gha that is slowly going away now that I am doing weekly water changes. Since August I think I did 2 or 3 water changes total until the end of the year.

If you were me would you get new rock and do a new cycle with new rock + small seeder rock or just break off the pieces that have the aphasia and hydroids and reuse all my old rock? Will use a cup of current sand and new sand.

break off the pieces.. use those new pieces in the tank... and use all new sand. start with a new cycle utilizing some of the older pieces of rubble and favorable rocks from your current DT.

About 3 months ago I swapped out most of my rock with pukani that's been cycling for 1/2 a year. Kept about 10 lbs of my original corallined rock to seed. No deaths or algae blooms. All my corals are doing great. Been doing 25% weekly wcs since the rock change and all is good.
