Refugium lighting help

I just bought a 6500K 10W fluorescent bulb from petco. It says on the box that there needs to be plastic or glass between the bulb and water. Is this necessary? I have LR, sand, chaeto some snails and hermits. Is the plastic/glass necessary to block UV rays? I don't want it to be harmful to the organisms down there. Also do you
think this bulb is enough light.

anyone?? should i just return that light bulb and stick with a regular house florescent bulb? It's rested at 5000K? is that enough for a refugium?

Thanks for the input guys. I just wanted to get something that would make the macro algae grow and help with nutrient export efficiently.

imo, any bulb that has a k value of 6500 would be okay
