I was just thinking about how often I have been upgradeing and downgradeing in the past and its crazy to see how many tanks I've been through. I went through about 5 tanks while I wasn't on this site. I had my 37g that I set up twice, a 29g I set up once and a 20g I set up twice.

Since I've been here I went from a 15g to a 55g to my current 30g and soon to be moved to a 65g. Thats a lot of moving for the past 5 months. Overall I think it has made my system better(yes I know it sounds wierd). It's just have to believe that I've changed that much.

I was wondering where all you guys started and where your tanks are now? How many upgrades and downgrades have you been through? Or are you sticking to one tank?

Kris,

I started with a 30g. Hated it, so I started working with acrylic and made a 12g fuge/sump. The tank exploded in health and color/growth - I was keeping pink and green poccilopora as well as other sps's

I upgraded to a 92 corner a little over a year later - that included upgrading lighting, skimmer, sump pumps, chiller etc. Major upgrade - I also had to do this cause I had tanks that were outgrowing my 30 (what was I thinking)

We recently renovated the basement and I custom installed a custom 180 - it will have a 29g fuge, a 20g frag tank, a 50g sump - the lighting will be doubled, skimmer upgraded and I will add a CA reactor and a monster chiller.

I can safely say, this is it for me. Dreams do come true.

I started with a 30 gallon, when I was 12. In college I had a 55, that was 1987. I kept that size till this year when I got my 120.
It's fair to say you win in the number of upgrades. My next upgrade, that's hard to say, I don't think I could have a larger tank in my apartment due to the weight.

House,

Your 180 looks great already. It's good to hear your reached a dream. One day my ultimate dream tank will arrive, I want a 120(unless I become a gazillionare and I can afford a 4000g system :D ) it just seems like the perfect tank to me. Your total system is almost 300gallons. Thats a monster system.

Do you have any pics of your old 30g?

John, you've been reefing a long time. My mom is actually my reason for being into fish. She brought home a fishtank when I was like 4 and ever since then I've been hooked. It's hard to believe you made your first upgrade when I was about to be born.

Why does water have to be so heavy!? :(

I started out with a 5 gallon tank when I first got married and then went to 2 10 gallons after the goldfish my ex-wife bought turned out to be baby koi. Then I bought oscars and a 29g. They got big and so did the koi so I bought a 30 long for the koi and kept the oscars in the 29g.

I then bought my first pirranah as babies (10 of them) and kept in the 2 10g. So now I had 4 tanks up.

Moved:
kept 29 and 30(as reef)
2 months later
55g
1 month later
75g and 150g
3 months later
150g and 2 180g
2 months later
placed both 10g in service as spawn tanks

after 1 year
2 x 10g
2 x 180g
2 x 150g
75g
55g
30g
29g

Wow, Kasei you did big moves. If we get into FW fish, I changed tanks so often I think the fish knew and they didnt wanna come home with me. I just got bored so easily. With my current tank there is no boredom, always something new popping up everyday.

Kasei, you ever had any snakeheads, specifically the Red Lined ones?

Those werent only FW tanks. Actually the 150g, 180g and the 30g were Reef tanks. All of the other were ciclid or Pirrahna spawn tanks which are now in the Brooklyn Aquarium and the Texas Aq.

Then I had 2 54g bowfront corner tanks in my house in Far Rockaway.I then sold the house 3 years ago and all of the tanks were given away to a-holes on RC trying to be nice. Never again.

Then I went with 1 54g corner and went up to a current 65g today. And now I just ordered my custom 130g Glasscages today
Which should be here in July.

Started with a 10 gallon fresh in 1991 (I still have a fish from that original tank still alive!!
).
Upgraded to a 30 gallon fresh. Then upgraded to a 55 gallon fresh (present tank).

Got into reefs in 1995 with a 55 gallon. Upgraded it to a 120 gallon 2 years later. Then took my original 30 gallon fresh and made it into a reef. My next adventure is to make the 55 gallon fresh into another reef!
