In my last apartment:
Started with a 10 full of mean-ass tiger barbs. they would kill everything I put in that tank. (even Bigger tigerbarbs)
Found my 100 (old 6'long) on ebay for $150-tank, stand CC, Magnum canister, uv filter, everthing. I picked it up that day! With full intention of it becoming a reef tank. Then checked it for copper, and there was NO WAY I was going to chance it. (did I mention that the guy's ex wife "accidentaly" dumped a gallon of bleach into the tank on her way out the door?)
So I threw $1 of
feeder fish into the tank to make sure it was okay. Out of the 20 that went in (no acclimation, just dumped in) 13 lived. The pics are two years later, the same fish!
I built the hood.stand cover (it was a metal stand) from left over decking from "shakespeare in the park" It's cedar, and there wasnt' a knot on the whole thing.

So I was pissed about the 100 not becoming a reef. I ditched the tiger barbs and set up a 15 high reef Nov 2001.
Then I fished out a mantis shrimp and he got his own tank. 4 gallon cube.
it leaked. so I bought a 7 gallon bow. got rid of that for a 10.
Did I mention that the whole time I've had a 20 gallon backish in my bedroom, and a 20 gallon livebearer at work?
When I knew I had to move, I started selling off tanks. and building my current setup.
now I have ONE 20 gallon reef and I'm completly happy with it. (
