(instead of adding to my last post I'll just start a new one...)

OK- a little update. Just looked in my tank and noticed that one of my larger tru blue shrooms was gone. I know shrooms sometimes move around so I started searching the tank for it...

Noticed that some shrooms in the back corner of my tank were gone as well...hmmm

So I started looking near those shrooms and noticed a shrimp i've never seen before in my tank (strange how 9 months later I am still finding new things- and in a 16g!!!). I'm going to try to describe it (got some pics but they didn't really turn out well...

He was translucent, with pink parallel strips running down his body. No claws or anything I could see. Pretty big! At least an inch and a half long from what I estimate. He has to be from the gulf of mexico - I haven't added any rock since my LR shipment.

Any ideas on what he could be? Thanks again!

and as far as I know peppermints don't eat shrooms... am I wrong?

Personally, IMO, as far as I'm concerned, not scientific, IME, Peppermint Shrimp are the devil in disquise. They are opportunistic feeders. I've had them eat my blastos. At that point they were banished to my fuge. Never to be seen in my display again.

They will feed on anything that is stressed. This translates into, any new coral added to a tank. Everything gets added to our tanks with a bare minimum of shipping stress. So they are fair game to peps.

Like I said in my first sentence, all this is IMO, as far as I'm concerned, not scientific, IME. I hope I've been clear about this being IMO only!!

I've noticed it too Russ.
They'll pick at new rocks & corals as soon as they are placed in my tank, but I haven't seen them do any major damage.
I always monitor them.

They WILL pick at stress corals. I've seen them pick at my Zoos & they ate my Xenia.

I also hate when they snatch up food from my corals!!!!:irked:

Pesky little ba$tard$. I hate that too! :skull: Nuke them sucka's.

They ate and killed four out of seven heads on my Blastos when I first added the coral. I never gave them a chance at redemption. The Blastos finally recovered. Now about 20 - 25 heads after a year. :grouphug:
