I have heard about the recall on Stealth Heater since it has been working for me before, I did not pay much attention. Today, I power it up again and it pops and gives out a bad smell while the unit is submerged still in the sump. Hope not too much bad stuff leaked out.

Mine didn't pop but brought the temp up to 98 out of now where wiped out the whole tank thank god it was only the 15 nano.

Sent from my DROIDX using Reefs

Good that I already installed extra temperature heater shut-offs for couple of my tanks. Plus I am switching to the digital heaters, one by one, with over heat shut-off function too. It's quite a fortune to switch out so EQs for so many tanks I have. :(

The older stealth heaters are solid. It's the newer ones with the LED light indicator on them that cause problems.

I had my original stealth heater that I got around 7 years ago, stop working this past week.

I just hooked up my AI last night. So my temp dropped from a steady 78-79 with chiller to 76?. So I went looking for my heater wich I put away over 1yr ago. It's a Stealth! purchased it about 4yrs ago no led. Should I replace or keep running it through the reefkeeper?

Sorry to read this Wingo!:( That is what happened to my tanks. Both the reef & the fowlr. The one in the fowlr was much worse though; it didn't just pop, it actually blew apart. In the reef it killed of 90% of my fish, and in the fowlr it killed just about everything, all the nems, and all the fish. Only survivors were the eels.
I now have EboJagers on controller for extra security.;)

No, keep yours. The stealth heaters without the LED is one of the best heaters ever made besides for the original (non-submersible) j?ger heaters.

I had a stealth heater fail on me as well, temp went from 79-86 in minutes. It was only 7 months old too. I didn't have any lose, since it was caught before the water was held that high for a long period of time. Now have a jager and hope for the best. Stealths are poorly designed, so many cases of them failing and destroying tanks.
