I'm thinking of changing my 70 oceanic "show" 36.5 x 18.5 x 24 to a 75 tall
48 x 18 x 21 for the following reasons:

(1) I want to provide additional room for my inhabitants YT and blue hippo 1 extra foot long of swimming room and larger surface area for an incremental amount of inhabitants

(2) Due to weight considerations I don't want to place anything in my living room over 75 gallons

(3) Originally I was going to go for a 120 in the basement and transfer the contents of the 70 to a 120 but my wife now wants to keep the tank in our living room and doesn't want to move the YT and Blue Hippo to the basement.

(4) I could reinforce the floor underneath and just go for the 120 in our living room but I'd like to have an in the wall tank in the basement. A place where I can escape and watch the tank.

So now I'm thinking of two tanks a 75 and a 120+ in my basement

Is this crazy?

P.S. Got a quote from glasscages $630 for a 75 RR gallon tank w/starfire front, 38" high stand and 12" high canopy.

If you are worried about your floor being able to hold a 75 or a 120gallon tank you have bigger problems man. It should not be a problem.

Any wife that says keep the tank in the LR is a good wife in my books. Definitely a keeper :D

A 75 and a 120? Your asking a bunch of reef addicts......

Herman

Thx. The 70 I have now is sitting parallel to the joists. I don't have any issues with placing a 75 parallel to the joists but with a 120, although I don't foresee any problems, I would sleep easier if I could place the aquarium perpendicular to the joists.

Having two aquariums would be great. One for softies and the other SPS or FOWLR with aggresive fish

Ernie, I'm liking the way this is shaping up. It's very possible that I like it for the same reason Herman mentions, we're all addicts!! However, you've seen my setup and I like overkill on the construction end of things. So I can appreciate your concern.

Looking forward to seeing this progress.
