Sump size?

Ideal size for sump: is this more dependent on equip in sump or the actual display tank size? Ideally looking to set up sump for a 120, if have Room small fuge too. Tia

the smallest you can go with is 20% of drain down after all equipment is set up inside. a 120 should have no more than 24 gallons draining down during shut down of pumps. add this to your running water level of your skimmer, and this is the smallest you can go. If you have the room their is no problem going bigger

i think i 40b would fit nicely, i was offered a 20g long, that is already baffled and ready to go but i am think it might but too small. i have to make it to petco and take adv. of sale if still going on.

2nd question:

the return for my tank is setup in the middle of the tank, should i be setting up sump in same fashion or that really makes no difference?

Makes no difference where baffles are in sump. Water is piped where you want it to go
