I have two, one is high on the rocks and one is literally on the sand bed and rock. They are both huge with 4 inch tips. My question is they never developed rose bud tips. They are loooong and stringy but look great while flowing in the tank. They moved all over when introduced but have settled for a good month and half now. Will they just one day develop the tips. The light is available so its not the lights. If they wanted more light they COULD move. They were perfect in the store.

Your situation is not uncommon and it doesn't seem that anyone is 100% sure why some stop bubbling and others always bubble up.

The only thing you can do is provide the best environment possible for them through excellent water quality and feeding them intelligently. What they do after that ...is up to them!

Just for clarification..what lighting do you have on the tank?

I think you need more light... or up the intensity.
they usually retract and bubble up when there is too much light.

i'm running at 75% whites and 100% blue for 12 hrs a day. Didnt want to raise the intensity more of fear of scorching other corals. I'm going to bump it to 90% and see what happens for a day or two.

12hrs? isnt that a bit much?

i run my lights from 6am-12am at different intensity setups at certain given hours. Intensity increases as the day passes and decreases to moonlights to total darkness. 6am-7pm varies as the hours pass... 7pm-10pm is strictly 100% blues...11pm-12am is only moonlights...12am-6am is total darkness.
