i am looking to set up a new sump and am not sure how high to make the baffles in the skimmer section. i have a reef octo skimmer, i want to say its a 150, but no markings on the skimmer to say either way. (just says reefoctopus)
its a little bit older of skimmer that i bought from someone on this site last year, the pump (psk 2500) sits underneath the unit.

any help would be appreciated

i dont recall the member name i bought it from or i would reach out to them. tia

RO normally recommends 6-10" of water but say that the output of the skimmer must be above the water level. So measure the height to the bottom of the skimmer output and you will know how high to make the baffles. My OCT NWB-110 is right at the 8" mark, so is my OCT XS-160.

Mine (nwb-110) is only a week old, but I agree with this completely despite my limited experience. Unless you mod the output with some kind of pipe and vent or get the mod from the mfr, you want the output near the water level of your sump section (for noise purposes), but not completely submerged (would create back pressure).

I've found that mine works best with the water level about 1/4-1/3rd up the diameter of the output pipe. I forget how high that is, inches wise, but it seems to be working well. Of course it's young still and nowhere near completely dialed in.

After less than a week in operation, I emptied a 1/4 cup of nasty, brown, stinky stuff over the weekend. It was foul, which made me happy. Go Reef Octopus.
