Was browsing throught Home Depot today looking for a new light to place over my mangroves, the light from the CFL bulb I have now is getting annoying and I was looking for something a bit more direct. I came across a Philips Ambient Par38 LED bulb designed for outdoor use. It's 4000k according to the box and 850 lumens. It was marked down considerably so I bought it, since it was the last one.

Here's my question, can having this bulb over the tank harm the corals in any way? I have a Rapid LED Par38 over the tank, looks like a 14k bulb maybe a bit bluer to my eyes (think Phoneix 14k)

Also, if I don't mind the tank being whiter, can this bulb provide any benfits to the corals in the tank? I could angle it so it hits the mangroves AND shines into the tank as well.

For now, I'm going to direct the light at the mangroves and attemp to keep most of the light out of the tank.

Just curious.
