I've had my tank up and running for about 6 years now. I recently added more live rock to my refugium, and now I am over run with aiptasia in my refugium. It started to make it's way into my tank, but my peppermint shrimps are all over that. However in my refugium it is all over my chaeto. If I add peppermint shrimps to my refugium, I know they won't beagle to get it all cause i have a huge ball of chaeto. So here's my question, can I take the big ball of chaeto, and put it in a bucket of saltwater where the level is 1.04' will it kill all the aiptasia? I know I will lose a lot of copepods doing this, but at this point I don't care! Thanks for your help?

I love having aiptasia in the fuge. They suck to have in a dt because they can sting other coral and they are ugly to most people but they actually have some benifits. I have to find the link but they are know to eat up nitrate

that wont kill them. iv seen them live in yellow color ammonia water with no problems. imo get rid of the macro. and if you add predators to the fuge it wouldnt be a fuge anymore

I tried using aiptasia X but seems like they multiple or come back. I have to get that majano wand soon. I don't have an extreme amount but I don't want it to go out of control.

Sounds like the wand is the way to go.

The wand could have the same results. If you do not kill Aiptasia properly and fully they will regrow. Aiptasia are so tough bc they hide well and any remaining tissue will regrow into an Aiptasia.

I agree with thirty6. Just toss the cheato. Also, I would remove the rocks and either burn off all the aiptasia if you are certain you see them all, or dry out the rocks to ensure the aiptasia are all dead. Also, if the aiptasia are attached to the walls/bottom of your refugium I would drain and scrub it.

This may sound extreme, but I have dealt with a bad aiptasia infestation before and attacking the problem early is key. The infestation can spiral out of control quickly. You do not want your DT to get infested with more aiptasia than the peppermint shrimps can handle, or have the aiptasia begin to grow in your overflows or other areas where your shrimp can not reach.

Isn't it obvious?

The Ap is in the chaeto, so... throw it away? It's in the rocks in the fuge, so... dry them for a few weeks and put them back in.

Why do you want to keep the chaeto with Ap in it when chaeto is basically free (or literally) from anyone on this forum?

Also, 'Shrimps' is not a word. Shrimp does not have to be pluralized.

The first piece of LR I got for my tank had a lone Aiptasia and because I was a noob(and still am) I decided to stab it with a small screwdriver LOL. What a dumb move. I just found another one pop up in my Zoas but I quickly "plugged" it up with some super glue gel. Hopefully that works

I agree with Joe, just scrap the chaeto, i would rather go with none than with aptasia all over it.

pepperments in the refuge seems to work for me. maybe they cant reach all of them, but they can keep them from spreading.

I would not take the chance of that. The aptasias can spawn and do not grow like polyps. So the "seeds" lets call them can get into the water column and up into the tank. That is the way it was explained to me, I may be wrong. But its only chaeto! Just dump it.
