I've been looking at a lot of established tanks on this forum, and one of the things I have yet to experience is coralline algae. From what I gather a lot of people like the look of the algae, where as I personally do not. Has anyone ever heard of putting a removable piece of black acrylic modded to fit over the current black background so it can be removed and scraped clean? I've read how a lot of people have difficulty scraping the algae off the solana background because of its texture.

Thoughts? Words of wisdom?

Totally cool with having it on rocks but back wall and glass need to be clean. I'm trying to figure out if anyone has ever put a sort of removable acrylic mask over the back wall to make fire easier cleaning. I contacted inTank and they won't help me out so I need to do some more research.

D, why not just wait until your tank gets the coraline growth you so dislike, then add a nice urchin to the tank? Tuxedo Urchins and Pencil Urchins are both reef safe and will feast on coraline algae. Don't add both, only one. This is a great way to do your maintenance naturally as opposed to devising a way to 'protect' the false wall in a Solana.

Probably the best answer your going to receive,

I hated my solana for the longest until that ugly black background turned purple lol. To each his own...
