I?m currently using an MRC Beckett skimmer but since moving into a bigger sump I cant use this skimmer in the sump anymore and the idea of plumbing it outside the tank isn?t very appealing.

The problem is the distance between the top of the sump and the bottom of the tank is 5 inches which means if I had the MRC in the tank I couldn?t remove it. I?m looking at the tunze 9015 since that has a footprint of 4x4 which would fit in and out of the tank. I could go with a HOB like the coralife superskimmer which would fit in the back of the sump easy.

If I could find a Skimmer that you can disassemble and put into the sump I have a lot of space inside the sump itself.

Tank is 120 Gallon mix of SPS/LPS/Softies. I would prefer a smaller pump with low wattage. Any suggestions?

I looked through the thread. Im looking for something very specific and that is that I have 5 inches to play around with to put the skimmer into the sump.

If that wasnt an issue I would keep my MRC skimmer but I didnt want to put it in and know that i would need to drain my tank to get it back out.

I would go with tunze, since you have limited space. I think Alrha is using 9015 and Ronen used 9010. Both of them use same pump, but 9015 is 2" taller. I am sure they will guide you right way to go.

your not going to find anything that will make that squeeze, and be good enough for your tank.
5", what wuz you thinking?
how about making a water tight box with a pump sitting inside it activated by a float switch. if the skimmer ever overflows the box holds the water and the pump puts it back into the sump. kind of crazy but it would work and you get to use a skimmer big enough for your tank.

Well The Tunze will fit underneath. And I could plumb it outside.. I would just rather not.. That Elos you have would fit too :P I just need 5" to get it in sideways. Once it is in the sump I have 24 inches top to bottom and plenty of floor space.

I would stear clear of the tunze. I had the 9005 and was very unhappy with its performance. the only good things about it are the small footprint and absoulte silence. I think your tank will suffer alot going from a nice beckett to the tunze.
