Well after 3 years of enjoying and caring for my purple mag I came across another very nice one red based from africa purple with green tips.

I brought it home and put it in my 40br QT/fragtank it looked really good infact it attached to the bag and looked like a rock star 1 hr after it went into the tank.

2 days later it didnt look right and I noticed a small algea bloom in my 40, so i moved to to the large refugium attached to my main system and put it under a nice T5. When I went upstairs I noticed the mag in my display was deflated... it hasn't deflated in 3 years... thats odd but the clowns are spawning maybe they where biteing it or somethin .. off to bed...

next morning Display Nem looks bad still, I txt a friend explain the problem could it be contagious? he replies, yes it could be! ... I rush to basement and put the new mag back into the 40br. maybe 10 hours later.

for the last month I have tried everything to save both Magnifica I even took time off from work but it was no use. I lost the New Anemome 10 days after arrival and my 3+ yr old Magnifica 2 days ago about a month later since it was very healthy and died a long slow death...

So this is just a reminder to everyone and to myself, since it is not the first time I have made a mistake like this. QT Everything. Keep your display as safe as possibe these anemones where never within 10 feet of one another...

SOOoo I just ordered a new tank and im tearing it all down and starting over, I cant even look at this tank now.. it was all built for that Anemone...

My photons look so lost :(

Kathy I dont know i read a ton of speculation on the web but noone really knows. I can tell you the symptoms of both anemones was identical. to me it appeared that whatever it was caused them to shrink and expel their intestines and look terrible with lights on. However with the lights off they remain mostly inflated and with mouth closed. if they cant get light they can not digest food or live off photosynthesis it will cause death in the end.

I tried some more extreme methods to save the newer of the anemone's with no luck, and I tried just good husbandry to help the older purple mag, with the same result. I would be happy to discuss the more extreme measure but I dont think this is the place for it. I dont want to encourage people to try them.
