Hello! I'm new to this forum, but have been in the hobby since 1973 when Stephen Spotte taught me how to cycle a tank. At the time this was a new idea, and I was one of the first hobbyists in the area to have a marine fish survive in a home tank for more than a very few months. I started a 40 gal reef in my office last year, and am in the process of replacing my 110 FO at home with a 220. Watch for the tank thread, and for the ad for my 110 set-up, which I will be selling next week.

Welcome to MR. I really enjoy reading about the early methodologies of the marine tank hobby. It is always fascinating to read about how it started, and comparing it to todays knowledge and undersdtanding. If you ever have time to share your experiences with your first marine tanks I, and I am sure others, would love to hear about it.

Good luck with the 220 upgrade.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I'm glad to be here. My son and I just spent the weekend breaking down my 110 and putting the fish into holding tanks. We also put two floor posts in the basement to support the floor for the new 220. When I start the build thread I'll post pictures of the basement. The 110 will be for sale in a few days.

It wasn't so different from today, except for the use of an AquaKing HOT box filter and UG filtration. :lol2: Keeping reefs was not even a consideration, it was hard enough to keep fish alive.
