So i got a really healthy copperband from Tropical island yesterday, he's in my 75 gallon reef exploring the second i put him in. As expected he didn't eat for the first feeding and i was just wondering what tips you guys have to entice him to eat. He did eat some brine at the LFS so i know this is possible even if its going to be hard. I see a lot of people have success with clams, but what type of clams do i get for him? just regular clams from the supermarket is fine?

ok i will duke, he is exploring and looks really healthy doesn't look like anything is wrong with him as of now so i will hope for the best. i just hope i can get him to eat i am going to try to put blood worms on a veggie clip and fit it into a crevice in the rock and see if he will feed that way for now just so he doesn't starve.

just tried to feed him again and he still didn't eat but he deff looked more interested this time around. i fed mysis and bloodworms any other ideas to entice this guy to eat? btw i dosed garlic into the food each time i tried. how long can fish go without eating before they get to sick? i dont see any bones or anything he actually still looks decently fat and none of my corals are closed up so he hasn't gone after any of my corals which is awesome.

they can go for several weeks without eating. of course not very good for them....many times from the sea to your tank can already be more than a few weeks without eating at all.
try the bloodworm and mysis without dosing the garlic....mine didn't like the garlic. also try squishing semi-thawed formula 2 into a crevice in the rock and let it pick away.

hey guys would i be able to get a clam from the supermarket and steam it so it opens and put it in the tank for the copperband? is that bad to feed to the fish or harmful to put in the tank i dont think it would be but figured id ask before i went and did it.

I wouldn't steam it as that is not a normal occurance.
You could shuck a fresh one. If you can't shuck it you can crack it open with a hammer.
Whatever you do, I would recommend getting live ones and let them sit in some spare tank water to flush as much as they can. Maybe fatten them up with some oyster feast.
