I will be upgrading from my 40B to a 120G with dual overflows. Each overflow has 2 bulkheads. I think each side has a 1" and a 1.5" bulkhead. What I was wondering is if I could use 3 of the holes for drain like a "beananimals" set up.

Here is a link that explains this overflow design

This drain is pretty much set it and forget it. The middle is full siphon, but with a ball valve. the right side has airline tubing to allow air and handle the rest of the drainage, and the left most is full siphon emergency drain if either of the 2 others become clogged. This set up is supposed to be totally silent.

Do you think could I get away with using only one of the 1.5" drains for return and the other 3 for drainage? Has anyone done this? I would love to see pics.

Thanks for the reply TW. I wish I could do the overflow as a coast to coast, but the bottom of the tank is already drilled, so I will be plumbing according to that. As for the head loss, I have no idea. I have to do a little more reading, but figured I would throw out the question to see if anyone has done this overflow without the coast to coast.

I have to find out if the 1.5" is big enough to move enough water and keep up with the drains...
