Here i am again with another problem with my new make up water lmao. i think the calcium preticipated out of the water because it is a milky white and i can see white dust on my powerhead. what would of caused this? and can i still add this to the aquarium for my water change its just 10 gallons, there is also an ugly white film on the surface layer of the water is this just because the coral pro salt has so many elements in it? there is a powerhead in the bucket mixing everything up. i checked the calcium lastnight and it was still at 450 so would any harm come from using this? other then maybe cloudy water for an hour or 2.

I have a 15 gallon brute and i use Redsea coral pro salt as well and this has never happened to me. I just keep a Hydor Aqua Clear 70 in there when i mix (sometimes i run two AC 70s for speed).

I have left the water in the bucket for two days mixed before and never had that issue.

I wouldnt put it in the tank. Dump it and clean the inside of the bucket with RODI water and a paper towel. Then refill it.

Yes too quickly, if you want to test it for yourself, add salt first and then add water, watch how cloudy it gets, same effect. 140gph pump in a 15g isn't that strong its only ~10x turnover. I've seen people use pumps that are like 60x turnover for their buckets, this can cause excessive heat.

People add salt first?

When i add the salt its cloudy for like 5 minutes then clear.

OH WELL, GOOD LUCK, POSTER.

I had the same problem but It turn out to be my mixing pump went bad on me I just dump the mix and made a new one after I cleaned the milky suff of the bucket...

Yes people have added salt first before and I used it as an example. Obviously you don't have a problem with calcium precipitation, think we've established that so thanks for your help.

Oh, I'm sorry, James. I know we all should just completely accept everything you say without question.

I so completely apologize for second guessing your incredible expert opinion and having one of my own, much like you do.

It turns out that temperature also plays a significant role in precipitation of calcium carbonate. This effect is noticeable not so much via the aquarium's water temperature, although that may have some impact, but most apparently, on unusually warm objects in the aquarium, such as pumps and heaters. There are two primary ways that warmer temperatures drive precipitation of calcium carbonate. The first is simply by reducing the calcium carbonate's solubility.

Some salt mixes cloudy at first then clear up. I mix my salt over night either way. One reason for cloudy mixes is if you mix too much salt. For example if you mix double the amount of salt which is okay as long as you correct it before you pour it in your tank. Calcium will build up in the container and power head over time as well. What is the salinity btw?

the salinity is at 1026 dre and the cloudiness seems to have gone away a little bit i am just going to use it i dont see how it will do any harm. the ph is fine i checked the cal thats fine and i triple checked the salinity and its at 1026 so i dont see how it will cause any harm.

i do add it all right away, but i have done this before and its cleared up the past 2 times. i think where i might of caused the calcium to precipitate was i originally had 15 gallons of saltwater made at 1026 i siphoned out 5 gallons because i had to do something with the water and then turned the heater on maybe the combination of both those caused it? who knows but i checked the salinity multiple times and its still 1026 so i know the salt isn't to high in their.
