How do I set up a QT?

My clown in my DT has ich, from the research it looks like copper and QT. So how do I set up a filtration system for a QT? Is a 10 Gal tank enough? Can I use existing tank water? How long do i have to QT the clown for?

In 6 years never had a problem i added hermit crabs a bang the next week the clown had ich? is that possible?
