Clam mantle fading?

Is it possible for a clams mantle to fade? The part that has faded was shaded by a cap. I trimmed back the cap and saw it was faded. Will it color back up or is there something else wrong with it. I have moved the clam.

The clam's mantle is full of symbiotic algae that's what feeds the clam, but this algae needs strong light to survive, you very lucky to find out early once the algae dies, the clam follows.
