Anemone question

I know that it's risky business putting an anemone in a reef tank, but I know that people do it with some success of it not moving around assinating everything on it's way. I would like to know what types are "more" safer than others or if there's some secret to keeping them in a reef tank? I have a pair of clowns that are trying to host on every coral they can, i think it's starting to upset some of the corals, like my poor colt.

I find that RBTA are pretty safe. The thing is you have to wait until it finds a spot where it's happy. Then work around it. Never try to place it where you want it, as ultimately it will have the final choice. Of course if you can get lucky if where you place it meets it's requirements. Also make sure you give it plenty of space for growth and expansion. Remember that at night they retreat and in the morning they rise and expand, so allow ample room.

Never had a carpet, but from what i understand they tend to be more aggressive. HTH.

The biggest problem with putting a BTA into your reef tank is that you will invariably end up with 2, then 3, then 4, etc... Damn things can be a real PITA to get out too.

FWIW, my ocellaris clowns never showed any interest in the BTAs when I had them. The always preferred a few different corals before finally settling into my large colt. They've been hosting in that for a couple of years now. YMMV.

The reason why percs sometimes refuse the bta's is because they are not the natural host. If you put a maroon in there it will go right in. But some do and will go into them. They do split, but mine stay in the area. A little tickle of the foot and it will release. It's a nice way to trade for stuff.

Just make sure your tank meets it's lighting needs as well.
