When I checked the nano last night all of the fry had gone missing. Then today at lights on they were back! There are maybe a dozen of them left and I can't get them out of the Biocube. I tried and may have killed a few in the process. :( Besides there are a lot of tiny pods in there that are small enough for the babies to eat.

So far the only fish I was able to remove was the Elongated Dottyback. The Sharknose parents and the Tiger Goby were impossible to get out. The parents hide behind the overflow grates and the Tiger is hiding deep in the only piece of live rock in the nano. I don't want to take that out and disturb the biological filter. The other inhabitants in the tank are a couple of hermits, a Pom-Pom crab and some assorted zoas and clove polyps.

I've turned off the filtration and put an airstone in the tank so the remaining babies don't get sucked into the filter. Will that be enough to keep the nano stable or should I leave the filter on and chance losing the fry?

Also, what do I do about the lighting? Do I leave it on during the day like usual, shorten the period its on or turn it off entirely?

I'm off to get fomr rotifers and appreciate whatever adive you may have.

Thanks!
Robin

Thanks to Wingo I now have some rotifers, pods and phyto to culture for the fry. This is my first time doing this so success is not guaranteed. Here's my little impromptu set-up:

Now this is really cool. I dont know if they are like anemonefish with breeding but with clowns collected the fry is much easier then collecting the parents.

Its also easier to take care of the fry if you collect them.

It looks way more organized than mine own setup.
Get the clear version of the bottles so that you can see the density of the cultures.
Especially for phyto, when it peak, you should dilute them ASAP to new bottles. It may crash quickly there after.

There were many more fry at lights on today. These are much smaller than the others which leads me to believe that the clutch has been hatching continuously for several days. Either that or the femal goby laid several clutches of eggs over several days. All I've seen of the parents over the past 2 days is a little nose peeking out at me from behing the gate of the BioCube's filter. I've read that the male guards the eggs, but I have no idea why the female remains elusive.

I need a one on one phyto grow lesson.
I tried it before but didnt trust what I cultured. I want to give it another shot. Not trying to sell it. Just want it for my tanks...

So, no more fry. I fed them the rotifers, but they sill didn't survive. The parents came out of the overflow compartment for dinner last nigt. The female is really fat and the male was staying very close to her so I think they will spawn again. In the meantime I'll continue culturing rotifers, pods and phyto and give some thought about how to give the next spawn better chances of surviving.
