My Water General 6 stage RO/DI system has a 2 month old RO membrane, new sediment filter, 2 new carbon filters and not TWO but THREE series resin membranes (I guess this makes it a 6 stage...?)

The HM Digital TDS meter (just checked cal in January) reads 42ppm going in and 0ppm coming out.

I have been using this RO/DI system for a few years and I am very careful with maintenance (see my signature for it).

However, here is my question:

Can RO/DI water that has been through a 6 STAGE system still have PO4 in it? Does 0ppm TDS guarantee no PO4?

Even if your TDS reading are zero. Yes, theirs always a little phosphate and who else knows what else that we can not test will be in our RO/DI water. How much no one knows. I say yes, but people might say no......

I SEE.....

So even with a super-duper RO/DI you can still have PO4.

Then I guess it's something we have to live with and constantly export with GFO and the like?

Have u tested it ? I just changed my filters on my typhoon Rodi one was so clogged with rust etc that I'm sure it wasn't doing great job. I changed the filters too see if thats the reason I'm having a algae out break I feel like my Rodi wasnt removing enough of the silicates / po4 hopefully new filters help I'll let u know! Will also test for po4 with red sea pro when I get home !

HYou can search / google anything the fourms wouldn't be much fun if everyone just googled there question
I think it's a great topic one that I've struggled with and I would say behind alk po4 is biggest problem for most reefers!

How r we supposed to keep po4 in our tanks super low almost 0 if the clean water and salt we use has more then we want ? That's the question! Does anyone run Gfo through there new makeup water b4 adding it too tank ? Why don't they have Gfo as a Rodi filter or do they ?

So you suggest if anyone has any question, they should do zero research on it and just ask it? You're saying everyone should just be completely reliant on others just spoon feeding them redundant information and being complete un self reliant?

How would this go over at your job? Asking your boss and coworkers every single question you could think of because you didnt have to drive to take 5 minutes and research it on your own?

I am by no means saying noone should ask questions. But sometimes (like this) the question has some really excellent threads that have perfectly answered the question already. So why not take advantage of that, Matt?

Take it easy guy. I agree a google search is the best thing you can do to educate your self. On the other hand since joining this forum I have met many different types of people. Some are computer illiterate, brand spanking new hobbyist, and frustrated because even after reading they are still having problems. Some people benefit from personal attention. At my job that type of thing would be a problem but good thing that manhattan reefs is my hobby;)

And to the original poster po4 in zero TDs water is ok. If you are having high phosphates it's probably best to run gfo. It's better to run gfo because even with pure zero TSS water you add phosphates in the form of food. You will still need a method of removing it anyway
