will the dipping of a frag in the reef dip will it kill all harmfull bacteria? I wanna give my buddy a frag I got but my tank is infected with sone nasty brown alge un treatable , So I'm at the step of keeping my rock completely dark for 2 months. If we dip the coral without anything attached to a rock coral ONLY..Is there a chance that my buddys tank will become infected?

Algae is really the symptom of a tank imbalance and not something that will usually "infect" another tank, unless of course it has some type of imbalance.

As an example, I picked up some coral frags a couple of weeks ago, that had green hair alage on them. Not only has the green hair algae not spread, but it has pretty much died off of the coral frags.

While keeping your tank dark for a couple months will kill off whatever is growing in your tank, it will probably return if you don't find the root cause and fix it.

I know the cause It was a coral I had purchased from a store who's tanks are all infected also...It was on the rock and I didnt notice his tanks were doing bad.. so i had thrown it in without dipping it .... And here it is 6 months later infected no cure ....So restarting from scratch with a new 210 :)

i agree with meschaefer.... also another problem could be phosphates or nutrients in the tank that the algae is feeding on... or could be excessive lighting.. there are many causes of algae....

The disinfectant properties of Reef Dip will definitely help corals by killing any infectious bacteria or protozoan that may be infecting them.

so algae is not really a bacteria but if it was put into ur tank and u have a succesfull tank it should not spread but should die off eventually....
