FYI...
I am researching copper to try to master its use and adopt it as a method of treatment and have been researching...
Most of you may already know the following so disregard if you do.
I spoke with Seachem and asked a ton of questions:
#1 why are test kits innacurate? Seachem use to mix the copper reagent with a filler and it was causing bad readings. Reagent #1 is now raw and suppose to be super accurate
#2 Cupramine is best tested with Seachem copper test kit due to compatability
#3 Why do the instructions say do not add more copper for 2 weeks but the internet says test daily and add accordingly? People make the mistake of leaving/putting things in the QT tank that absorb copper, decorations, skimmers, uv, filters, etc...hence the need to ensure stable levels. If you do a bare QT with heater, air stone and pvc then levels should remain at recommended dosage levels without a need to add more, test regularly for peace of mind
# Label says to add 16 drops for every 10.5 gallons of water? WRONG
TURNS OUT SEACHEM REALIZED THAT 16 DROPS WAS NOT ENOUGH AND HAS NOW INCREASED THEIR RECOMMENDED DOSAGE TO 20 DROPS PER 10.5 GALLONS.
Seachem assured me that the formula itself did not change, just their recommended dosage.
The big dilemma is that retailers still have tons of Cupramine that says USE 16 DROPS FOR EVERY 10.5 GALLONS YET SEACHEM CHANGED THE INSTRUCTIONS SO WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN, ARE THOSE THAT ARE FOLLOWING THE 16 DROP RULE UNDER MEDICATING AND LOSSING FISH??????? Seachem simply said, you should be fine at 20 drops per 10.5g nothing will die.
Lastly, in case you did not realize it, fish tanks do not really hold the amount of water that the advertised label says.
A 20 gallon fish tank does NOT hold 20 gallons, it holds 18.5 gallons....etc, etc, etc, etc....something you may want to keep in mind when calculating drops.
So to simplify this crap for you....
IF YOU CHOSE TO FOLLOW THE OLD 16 DROPS PER 10.5 GALLONS THEN YOU NEED TO ADD 1.55 DROPS PER GALLON OF WATER.
IF YOU CHOSE TO FOLLOW SEACHEMS NEW INSTRUCTIONS THEN YOU NEED TO ADD 1.9 DROPS PER GALLON.
DO NOT USE FANCY PIPPETES....SEACHEM RECOMMENDS THE DROPPER CAP THAT THE BOTTLE OF CUPRAMINE IS SEALED WITH.
THERE YOU HAVE IT IN CASE YOU WERE NOT CONFUSED ENOUGH ALREADY...16 DROPS PER 10.5G APPARENTLY PROVED TO BE USELESS SO THE MANUFACTURER RECENTLY CHANGED IT TO 20 DROPS.
FEEL FREE TO CALL SEACHEM 706 343-6060 AND CONFIRM IT YOURSELF.
