in this hobby you really get what you pay for, they will definitely be fine for FOWLR but they're probably super dim and you'll probably get better fixtures to light your tank

If he has no intention of keeping coral... there is no true designation for "marine without coral lighting".

So the proper answer would be "Yes". It can be used for a Fish Only tank.

yea, my bad, totally forgot about this post. i bought this item:http://www.ebay.com/itm/290693791614?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_1681wt_948.
it works well, i think its exactly like the marineland version, but cheaper. it was not cheap looking or feeling. only thing i don't really like is that it is 1 switch for both actinic lights and white/actinic lights. there is not a separate controller for each. however, the marineland version does not have this feature either. the light is 2600 lumens, i think it is bright enough for corals, even sps. however, i'm not definite because i only have a FOWLR as of now.

I have the 48" freshwater version on my 55 from the same seller and my mushrooms and zoas have been doing very well under it. It is surprisingly bright for a cheap eBay LED.
