Old canister into a reactor

So I have an old canister filter that has trays where I can put media instead of in a bag could this work as a reactor

I think if the canister has an upward outflow then its ok

It def is an upward flow it's a Rena xp3 canister

I figured its the xp3 when you mention trays. Yes, Renas can be used as a reactor, but I would still put the media the mesh bag though. they might travel through and damage the impeller.

I'll try it out, each tray has a cover and the top where it would flow into the impeller is covered

the particles will get smaller when they tumble inside due to water flow, and small enough to get through the holes in tray cover and into the impeller.

i bought a little 10 inch canister in petgoods for ten dollers for my phosban it works great brings two sponges my phosphate is super low and tumbles perfectly i also saw it in brs for ten dollers

As long as the media will tumble instead of be in a bag it should work well for you
