I use ESV and love it, BUT I have also used IO Reef crystals and Tropic Marin salt also and liked all of them. There are so many to choose from each with their own companies selling points.

ESV is highly adaptable to taylor to your specific wants, it's 4 parts- sodium chloride, magnesium sulphate and then 2 liquid parts. If you follow the instructions to the tee it gives you the levels of each element you're looking for.

Red Sea boasts that their salt is derived directly from evaporated water from the Red Sea so it has all the perfect levels due to it being directly from the sea.

IO Reef Crystals boasts guaranteed readings and balanced salt.

Then there's Brightwells and a million other companies to choose from, it can drive you crazy until the 40 brands you've read their mixing guarantees all blend into one big blob of numbers.

They all rate their salt the best so which is the best???????

THE ONE YOU CAN AFFORD AND GIVES YOU GOOD WATER QUALITY-------In other words you can use just about any salt and be happy with it.

oceanic....very good
red sea......very good
every salt is good depending on how you monitor your tank. if they werent any good they would be out of business. it depends on what you test for. some have more trace elements then others and some have to much then others.. if you want something all in one that comes closest to natural sea water you will have to mix every salt mix together LOL.

Apologies to the original poster who has no way of knowing this, but this is one of the few questions even I agree is best answered by a through search of the forum. It is one of the most frequently asked questions with numerous lengthy threads and there is NEVER any agreement reached. There are many, many good salts and people both love and hate all of them.
