Skimmer going nuts after WC????

I just did like a 28 gallon water change on my 75 gal tank (150 total water volume).

I never saw this happen before, but when I plugged everything back in the skimmer went nuts and was overflowing like crazy, I had to unplug it cause it was filling up with wet skim. This never happened before.

The SW mix was sitting for over a week with a powerhead in it.

The temp and salinity were the same when added.

I even tried to open the gate valve all the way, but that didn't stop it. That was a stupid move cause I had it dialed in nice before.

Any ideas?????

If you use filter socks, they need to be rinsed off or your skimmer will go nuts.

did you wash the new sock before putting it in your tank?

NO!! I honestly didn't know I had to! What a dope! Learn something new every day. What do was out with? Just tap water with some dechlorinator?

I took the sock out and skimmer is fine. What a moron I am LOL!

ALWAYS rinse off anything new you put in the tank. As for socks run them through the washing machine before you put in the tank. I was told that the socks may have oils and detergents on them.
