Anybody knows where can I find a bait store in NYC that sells live silversides ????
I have a blue ribbon eel that I bought after researching a bunch of websites, videos, documents to see how to try and get them eating

I built a PVC pipe tunnel for it to hide as I read that they need to be all covered so they can feel safe and then they will start eating
Now the thing is that it actually EATS without a problem, is active and goes everywhere in the tank
But it doesn't eat what I feed it, it loves eating only live saltwater fish like my 5 chromis that I had And a yellow watchman goby

I dont know what else to do to get him to eat dead silversides

So I want to try live silversides
I heard they sell them at bait stores

Anybody knows where are they located?

try city island there is a bait shop about half way down i go there in the spring and summer and buy live fiddler crabs from them and feed my snowflake he loves them and so do my triggers and i can keep them alive in a plastic container so its cost effective i know they have live silver sides in there not sure of the name right now but its right next to a boat yard

If you want small live saltwater fish for bait you'll have to settle for killies. Silversides (Menidia menidia) are not the same fish as the frozen white "silversides" sold in pet shops and Asian markets (where a pound will cost you less than the small packets in pet shops). Live silversides are very fragile. I used to seine for them, both for eating (delicious as fried "whitebait") and bait, and in my grad school days. They are very delicate and rarely survive a haul with the net. I have managed to keep 1 or 2 in the days when I kept a local tank, but that makes it about a 1% survival rate.

You can see if it will eat frozen krill or even mysis. I saw mine going after frozen mysis in Aquarium Village so I took it home. He eats whatever goes in the tank now, ghost shrimp, mysis or krill. I never tried silversides I feel if it gets used to eating fish it may have a difficult time getting out of the habit
IMO PVC is not needed it is not natural and mine loves to go into the rockwork. I think PVC is recommended to encourage feeding, since they are slow eaters at first, the idea being they may prefer less competition.
These eels are notoriously difficult to start feeding but once they do feed you are in the clear. So chances are you will be fine. As long as you can get it onto frozen. Chromis are not cheap. Mine eats shrimp and has never gone after any fish, neon goby, that I know would fit in its mouth.

Good luck.

I would actually stay away from silverside. I don't think they are part of their diet in the wild. I don't see them tracking and grabbing a silverside while they swim. If a dead one floats by I'm sure it will take advantage.
Watching mine eat I think shrimp are its primary meal. Mine will hover over the food as it tracks it. Then pin it against the substrate.
I was really stoked when I got my antenata lion eating frozen shrimp. Until last week it would only eat live.
