Any ideas why this would happen?
Nothing new added to tank and no changes to anything either
tank currently has 2fish and 2 corals ( I know gotta stock it)

120 gallon, 40g sump, Tank does not have a cover on it, why out of nowhere does it smell like low tide? Wife is gonna kill me if doesn't go away SOON

Just read a few older threads. I am not currently running carbon and I have water ready for a change which I'll do tomorrow morning. My skimmer appears to be working fine. These 3 things were discussed often in older posts on this topic. I did a water change 2 weeks ago, approx 20 -25 gallons. Any other ideas? No unaccounted critters or livestock

thirty, i would like to help. I think you should test for ammonia/ nitrates, find the source first then do water change and see what happens. The smell could be coming from your sand bed. Don't use the carbon yet...

Tested water, ammonia and nitrate were both zero
My sand bed is shallow, should prob be a little deeper Id say 2" might be just under
SKene, i am cleaning collection cup it wasn't awful but since you mentioned it I figured id clean also.

Thanks for ideas, i am making another brute pale of water, i have close to 20 gallons left but don't want to be dry and still need water so I'll do a wc Sunday and see where im at

I opened a window a few behind tank (it's in basement)

I might have actually found cause although tank related not really the tank
I dropped a full bottle of pellet food few days ago and had to shopvac it all up, I forgot to empty the shop vac afterward so it's been sitting next to tank for maybe 5 days I emptied the shopvac outside and it was disgusting. I'm hoping that is actually the cause, but I'll still go ahead with wc later or tomorrow

Lmao...you're lucky she didn't have you swimming with the fishes and come to find out it was all over some feeshie food...

Seriously though...it's a good thing that you didn't do a bunch of crap to your tank before you found the cause...or have to get rid of it over the smell. Good save!

The odor has begun to dissipate, so im confident it was my stupidity. None the less i got some extra motivation to do a wc and check all my levels today. I even set up my qt tank. Now if i can just get around to doing the ato and reactor.......
