Rodi issue....

I have a 5 stage typhoon 3 extreme rodi and in the past 3 days my first filter (1micron) has been turning brown literally overnight and clogging the thing creating very low pressure....it's weird cuz this hasn't happened this quick in the past few months since I've had it.......should I add another canister as a prefilter and if so what should I fill it with?

I would not add a pump unless you have low feedwater pressure.

The ideal set of prefilters is different for everyone - in your case a 1 mic sediment filter clogs quicker than you'd like. The fact that it's clogging tells you its doing its job - trapping sediment.

You could:
*Add a 5 mic sediment filter ahead of the 1 mic
*Just change the 1 mic as needed

Remember that the pore size on your carbon blocks should be about equal to or larger than the smallest pore size on any of your sed filters.

Also - if you don't have a pressure gauge you should get one - and it should be plumbed in after the prefilters.

The original setup was 1. 1mic sediment 2.3 micron carbon block 3. Inner canister filled with activated carbon 4.di 5. Back down to the color changing resin


Not long ago #3 kept clogging so I replaced with another #2

Now number 1 keeps clogging
When everything is running smooth I get 40psi with no pump ....right now I'm at about 20 psi


Keep in mind Its a 150 gpd ato for 2 separate tanks 60 and 75

Assuming you have a 150 gpd membrane, rather than two 75's - the 150's need 65 psi.

You shouldn't be using GAC as a 10" prefilter on a system with this capacity.

At 20 psi, you're membrane isn't going to work well at all. You'll be dumping too much of your feedwater to drain, and the rejection rate will not be good.

i'm assuming you're from queens here, but i think someone is messing around with the water system. i already know of 3 reefers from my neighborhood who's filters clogged in a matter of days.

Isn't NYC water pretty high in sediments? Using smaller micron will cause it to run slower. I noticed when i switched from 5u to 1u it was outputing much slower and had more waste water.

The PSI is pretty low as other have mentioned, my faucet is around 65-75.

Clogged filters will result in slower flow will result in lower pressure.

Its not the smaller pore size - it a filter with small pores that happens to be clogged.

That's why we use them - to trap sediment.

I changed 3 out of 5 filters and it's running at 50 psi......
1. 5 micron sed
2. 1 micron sed
3. 1 micron carbon block
4. DI
5. Resin

Changed 1st 3 filters......is 50 psi ok? If not what booster pump would you recommend
