I want to eventually upgrade to a 220. Do you think a 40 gallon sump/fuge is an appropiate size?

All the best,
James

It would be nice, but with a 220 you can go much bigger/more gallonage than that. You can also custom order an acrylic sump from custom king on here or other acrylic tank or glass tank manufacturer to get a sump that fits the space you are putting it in exactly and work the best for you and get more water volume in the same space. The main thing a sump does is add to the water volume of the system.

If you can design the sump and fuge separate that would be best. They really require different flow rates. You're going to want 10X per hour turnover but a fuge works best with slow flow. You can work it all out on paper and then consult any professional and they'll steer you in the right direction.

Good luck.
