I have a 92 gal corner tank with overflow and durso established for years, lately it started making the "tiolet flushing" sound so I slightly enlarged the hole on the cap and stuck an air tube in it.

now I have this wierd constant sound thats hard to describe like of air wooshing thru the hole and gurgling ????- how do I silence that? is the hole to big or to small?

I'm run external pump had the same noise I adjusted ball vale on the return side so I have the right flow entering and leaving the pipes and noise stop maybe your pump just need a good cleaning?? Also u can try moving the air tube up and down to see if it change??

Thanks, I have an external pump as well and cranked down the return also which helps eliminate the tiolet flush and overflow waterfall sounds but now I am just wondering how to silence the gurgling sound from the hole on top of the cap. It goes completely silent with my finger on the hole but that obviously creates other issues.

The durso should already have had a hole on the top. Not sure why you drilled another hole. I would just make sure that existing hole isn't clogged, you can also make sure nothing is clogging up the drain, such as algae, or sponges in the pipes.

Since it was working well for years, it sounds like something is slowing down the drain now. The toilet flushing sound is from water backing up (due to something partially clogging your drain) until it gets high enough, then creates a siphon which speeds up the drain. Once the siphon breaks, you have the toilet sound.

In summary, look for whatever is partially clogging your drain.
A short term solution is to throttle your return pump, but you're still not solving the root issue.

If you get the swirl swooshy gurgle flushing toilet noise.... Lol, I would put a few cotton balls loosely packed into the top of the cap. This will act as a silencer but you should replace once the start getting gacky.
