Clownfish spawning

I was wondering, once clownfish start :bunnies: , how often is normal for them to keep doing the :bunnies: ? My first clutch of eggs were laid 5/18/06. The eggs survived two days.

Last night 5/25-5/26, they laid another clutch of eggs. It was only one week. Is this how often I should expect it? If so, I can possibly set up a breeding tank to try to raise the fry. Once it becomes regular like this, it's much easier to plan for it.

I'm thinking in Joyce Wilkerson's book she says 2 weeks. But your guys seem to be busier than that.

you should get an internal fuge for the eggs... though I don't know if that would keep the fry from swimming out of the holes in it.

Raising them is alot of work. That's why most people don't bother. You need to have a rotifier culture setup and ready to go. They really need small food when they hatch. Not to mention that you would need to stay on top of the water as it can foul up pretty quick. Get the Joyce Wilkenson book if you plan on attemting this. But don't get discouraged if you fail the first time around. There's a learning curve. Good luck.

You need to setup a separate tank for them. Try putting the tile in so that they may lay them on there and make it easy to remove them.

Got any more pics? I can't wait until mine decide to get busy. That's the one thing right now that would allow me to walk away from it all if i choose to.

Brett, I've been purposely avoiding Joyce's book. Like Pedro said, it's a LOT of work and I already know that. I'm actually pretty well versed on trying to rear them. I've been unsure of whether or not I wanted to go through the hassle. Keep in mind, these are not $50 fish! As adults they'll 'appreciate' to $17 each.

Scarf, they laid them in the EXACT same spot as the first time. So new pix would only look like I was posting repeat pix.

Mikey, great links bro. Thanks. Just about all the stuff I know. It's the headache of culturing the rotifers and greenwater that's a PITA.

If the wife gives me a gentle shove I could be persuaded :biggrin: . However, the idea of suggesting another tank to her is not what I want to do. I'd rather load one round in the cylinder and spin it, put it to my head and chance the trigger pull! :happysad:

Hopefully love is in the air. I have been watching my clowns and they seem to be starting to want to mate. In the mornings they spend some time biting at the rocks, which i assume means that they are cleaning a spot. Let's see how it turns out.

Pedro, sounds hopeful. My clowns spent about 2 months continually rubbing their bodies on the skeleton of the wall hammer. That is a naturally smooth spot, but I think they were just doing the necessary preparation for the :bunnies: .

So far so good, they are still protecting the clutch. The male spends a huge amount of time just fanning the eggs. The female is the bouncer, the heavy, the Mike Tyson of 'their area'. :biggrin: I'm going to rename her Helga the Horrible. :lol2:
