So as of now, I have 2 karolia 1(powerhead). Im having a 156watt 36'', and I already have about 40lbs of live sand. Im going to set up a sump and I want to ask about the CPR overflow (CS 50) . Is it good? Im getting about 50-80lbs of rock and will be setting up next week. So i need people helping me! :D AS of the sump, if i get the CPR overflow, I wont have to drill in a hole. Is it loud? and so all i need is a 20 long sump with 3 sections, one to actually come down and I will have the... blue circle thing where bacteria can grow... , the middle section to have live rock, sand, mangrooves, and the 3 with protein skimmer and the return pump right? Will this be good? getting the CPR overflow CS 50? Im new, so if anything please give me directions and etc. At this point im more than happy to hear people give me directions and im willing to follow, the only reason Im going with the CS overflow is because it has good rating and lots of people have it. AND i dont have to drill the tank! will that be all i need for a set up? let me know!!!!!!!

If u haven't made the sump yet. I would but the 1st sec filter sock and skimmer middle sec rock sand and mangrooves and cheatoe and the last sec the return. And make sure you but a bubble trap so no bubbles make it up to the dt.

The CPR overflow is noisy, as the water gushes down the pipe, but you can fix that simply by putting a wooded cover or magazine over the whole box.

Over all, I'd rather drill a hole for $20, over at Fishtown USA or Flushing and install a bulk head for $15-20 instead of using a cumbersome, indirect overflow box. I'd prefer to drill on the bottom rather than the back. OR if you don't like the whole drilling idea, you can get a predrilled 65Gal tank which includes the built in overflow kit from all-glass aquariums.
So calculate the price break point of tank and CRP vs drilling vs a 65gal.

Actually, I was talking about the bottom. The side panels are tempered, whereas the bottom can be tempered or not. You have to specify if you want tempered or not, then get a professional to drill it for you. Tempered glass has a chance of shattering, since microscopic cracks form on it whereas regular glass doesn't.

As for placement, I like bottom better, so there aren't any elbows sticking out the back of the tank. The bottom is also good for center reef displays and the pipe goes straight down straight to the sump.
